NC Gen. Ceci Koirala says Congress unlikely in August
Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Shashanka Koirala says it seems impossible to organize the party’s 14th convention on the scheduled date. The party has scheduled the convention for Aug. 30.
In a media interview today, the le
ader said holding the convention at the scheduled time was impossible due to differences over the issue of active party members and other lingering problems.
He said the congress will be held in November-December to resolve internal issues. Even before the preparation for the congress, the controversy over party activists was brewing. He believes the party membership issue should be taken up a year before the deadline for the congress.
“We want to hold the congress as soon as possible,” he said. He said he also put forward his candidacy for party chairman. Two other candidates from party bodies are keen to vie for the post and if we all vie for the post, we will lose the battle and discussions are underway to reach a consensus to present a single candidate.
On the other hand, he says he will not enter the Council of Ministers and will not support the government by staying on the street.
